The house is built of a mixture of limestone and ironstone. We have found that the old rose 'Gloire de Dijon' looks particularly attractive against the stone, so she features quite heavily on the walls, often with Clematis 'Rouge Cardinal' which has similar vigour and complements the rose. David Austin's rose, 'Shropshire Lad', also suits the stone.
