Welcome to The Old Vicarage ......

Picture
The garden sits on a hill in the tiny village of Burley, two miles from Rutland water, looking over parkland to Burley House. When we arrived in 1996 there was no garden but a wilderness of nettles, brambles, ground elder and barbed wire, redeemed by some fine old trees and a fabulous display of snowdrops in the winter. Since then we have gradually worked out from the house, adding walls, hedges, paths and terracing to manage the slope, dividing the garden into different areas.
You can get a flavour of the garden through the tabs above, but better still, come and visit us!  In the last 14 years, your visits (through Open Days and groups by arrangement) have raised an amazing £108,000 for the NGS and our nominated charities. We really enjoy sharing the garden with visitors because it makes us stop and see the garden through their eyes, and remember why we love it.
